Another New York Fashion Week has come and gone with the trendiest and most eye-catching ensembles caravaning runways and strutting the NYC sidewalks. Twice a year, this monumental week in fashion gives us a glimpse of what some of the biggest trends, colors and textiles are to be for the upcoming seasons and from the looks of it, we have retro-inspired fresh takes on futuristic designs, new-aged takes on classic silhouettes, and all-around original and indescribable pieces. Here are the top ten (in our opinion):
1. Dramatic Skirts

This classic silhouette by Peter Do is pure sleek perfection and an example of how the two ends of the skirt spectrum are taking over runways for this fall season. From micro-mini skirts to maxi lengths and the return of the ball-gown style, we love this Peter Do example because of the cinched belt at the waistline and the deliberately structured sleeves.

Altuzarra also sent long hems sweeping down its runway with autumnal matching browns and super sleek leather, lower rise skirts that will easily cross the line into the winter season.

2. All That Glitters...

In a double-down on sparkle, Altuzarra presents a deep-V long sleeve, gradient gold sequin gown matched perfectly with black bag and platform heels. Anything but subtle, bold motifs are taking center stage this fall and they’re coming in hot.
3. Puffed Sleeves

Big, puffy, and dramatic sleeves are no stranger to the runway, but Carolina Hererra is bringing the trend to formal wear in their Fall 2022 Ready-To-Wear collection with this perfectly tailored, dark pantsuit embellished with distended powder blue long sleeves.

Gabriela Hearst also showed up with off-the-shoulder tailored sleeves matched with cropped pants - the perfect back drop to the main event: those perfectly puffed sleeves!
4. Matching sets

Matching sets clearly have a place in any season, whether it’s this beautifully flowy, off-white spring set by Christian Siriano as worn by Valeria Lipovetsky on the streets of NYC, or Aïssata Diallo wearing this burgundy leather jacket with matching wide leg pants by Bottega Veneta. If NYFW taught us anything this past week, it’s that choosing a matching set is your safest bet to look the most stylish for any photo op.

5. Cut-outs

Bringing glamour to the pool side? Perhaps in another time cut-outs and sheer ‘cover-up’ ensembles were quite wrongly only reserved for the beach - but now they’re on par with dress codes of dimly lit ball rooms and brightly shining runways. This fully beaded, long sleeve gown by PatBo hits the mark as she aims to make the wearer feel like she’s putting on a piece of jewelry. The flawless craftsmanship, stunning embroidery, and dramatic cut-outs create one show-stopping look.

The cut-out is one of the major fashion trends we’re on the look out for this spring and it seems to be on track to continue well into the fall and winter seasons, as they adorned runway after runway all week long. Bella Hadid in this gorgeous black sequin (another comeback trend) cut-out gown by Michael Kors (pictured above), and Valeria Lipovetsky as a vision in red by Oscar De La Renta exhibit just some of the creative cut-out creations we saw in New York.

6. Futuristic Fashion

Inspired by what a (maybe not so) distant future for humans on Mars may look like, this completely vegan “leather” oversized jacket with color-blocked bodysuit has us secretly dreaming of that future so we can wear these otherworldly pieces sooner.
Keeping with the futuristic theme of silver and sequins, on a somewhat warmer planet, Eckhaus Latta gave us this asymmetrical, sheer skirt cinched over a gray knit sweater with (on trend) oversized sleeves in what was the perfect balance between warmth and exposure. Their Fall 2022 Ready-To-Wear was dominated by sheer pieces, with gray-scale at the forefront and pops of color throughout. The fall season this year seems to point towards more color than we've seen in a long time. Speaking of...
7. Exuberant Colors

It was all about lively hues and lush fabrics from Dur Doux this NYFW, and this gorgeous sherbet gown was the star of the show for us. Perfectly blending daywear with nightwear in what resulted in a beautiful mosaic of color and textiles adorning the runway.

In what was a refreshing departure from florals for spring (although this runway was still bursting with blooming patterns), Carolina Herrera gave us all some much needed sunshine on the runway with this absolutely stunning mango-yellow bundled gown that was only made more breathtaking by a bridal-worthy train in tow.
8. 'Kitschy' Knits

Whether from your Grandma’s closet, your local thrift shop, or the runways of NYFW, knits are everywhere this season. But some of our favorite trends were walking the sidewalks rather than the runways, like Allegra Shaw giving us a somewhat demure knit with a splash of color in the details. She's giving us classic fall chic fashion with a black skirt and white turtleneck combo to combat any sign of autumn weather.

Coach provided a whole line of knit and crochet frocks for any occasion, but we personally fell for this short sleeve, cut out dress in white that serves as a full day-out ensemble. Regardless of the occasion, the subtle yellow belt and bold neon pink sunglasses provide all the bright spring shades needed to complete this classic silhouette.
9. Tailored Menswear

Borrowing from the boys and making it flattering and classy is one of our all time favorite trends and NYFW did not disappoint. Michael Kors gave us this oversized two-piece suit in camel that looks both impossibly comfortable and executive-level chic.
Valeria is wearing Altuzarra and Stuart Weitzman in the iconic high-waisted and crop-top ensemble. While a more traditional women’s cut, this two-piece matching navy set is classic ‘80s oversized style elevated for the badass women of 2022.
10. Cinched Styles

We've read a lot about embracing our silhouettes this spring and summer season, and creating comfortable feminine shapes with our clothing is apparently a trend that will linger until the fall season. Tory Burch's runway portrayed this trend in abundance last week - with thick belts and dress patterns that accentuated the waist and hips.
